Head of Whatsapp Will Cathcart said the recent update of WhatsApp does not change data sharing practices with Facebook.

Head of Whatsapp Will Cathcart said the recent update of WhatsApp does not change data sharing practices with Facebook.

Whatsapp, a messaging platform, said on Saturday that the latest update does not change its owner’s data-sharing practices with Facebook.

Why Whatsapp update their policy?

Facebook’s latest update gives Whatsapp commercial user data access, and advertisers target consumers with relevant customized ads in their suite of apps, including Instagram.

However, messengers have been criticized for sharing user information with social media platforms. Several people, including Tesla’s Elon Musk, have suggested alternatives. Tweet Musk suggested that users turn to Signal, the US messaging platform.

Will Cathcart, Head of Whatsapp, shares his thoughts on this issue on Twitter.

He said it had updated company policy to “be more transparent and better explain people-to-companies capabilities” options.

Whatsapp confirm they committed to E2E

“It is important to be clear. This update describes business communication and does not change the practices of sharing WhatsApp data with Facebook.  Communicate privately with friends and family anywhere in the world. It does not affect.”

The head of  Whatsapp said that with end-to-end encryption, We cannot see chats and private calls, and neither Facebook nor our company can stay committed to E2E.

“We have updated our policy to make it more transparent and better explain the optional features between people. I wrote about this in October. It includes trading on WhatsApp and includes the ability for people to send messages to their business,” Cathcart said.

The companies want a tool that quickly responds to messages sent, he said, adding that about 175 million people send messages to their business accounts daily on WhatsApp. “Today is very difficult,” Cathcart said. “Features like stores and checkouts can help you buy what you want from your business using WhatsApp.”

The new update displayed on the user’s screen will take effect on February 8, this year. However, the number of downloads for other messaging platforms such as Signal and Telegram is increasing.

Signal clearly states that it will not sell, rent, or invest in your personal data or content. Telegram also confirmed that it did not use user data to display ads and that the data collected through Telegram contained only phone numbers, contacts, and two-factor verification emails.

“We are competing with others for privacy, which is very good for the world. We need to be confident that people can choose how to communicate and no one else can see their conversation. There are people who oppose this, including some governments, “he said. Cathcart.
