In late October, Google announced that Google Meet, its video conferencing tool, would allow users to upload custom backgrounds in video calls. This feature, made famous by Zoom, is a fun way to bring a boring phone call to life. but that is not all.
By clicking on the digital background in a video call, you can prevent other participants in the call from looking at your real home. Whether you value privacy for yourself or don’t want to clean up your shared home office before the next meeting, this feature offers a small analogy to privacy and control that Pandemic removed long ago. 1) Change your background Google Meet in laptop
Important: Users who join a video call when they are not signed in to their Google account, and who need to swipe to get approval, can change the wallpaper only once in the video call. Users who participate in G Suite for Education video calls cannot select their own background image.
Before a video call
- Go to Google Meet > select a meeting.
- On the bottom right of your self-view, click Change Background.
- To completely blur your background, click Blur your background.
- To slightly blur your background, click Slightly blur your background.
- To select a pre-uploaded background, click a background.
- To upload your own image for your background, click Add
- Click Join Now.
During a video call
- On the bottom right, click More
- Click Change background.
- To completely blur your background, click Blur your background.
- To slightly blur your background, click Slightly blur your background
- To select a pre-uploaded background, click a background.
- To upload your own image for your background, click Add
Tip: Your camera is automatically turned on when you click Change background.
2) Change your background Google Meet in Android

- Open the Meet app to select a meeting.
- Before you join, on the bottom of your self-view, tap Blur your background
to turn blur on and off. - Click Join Now.
During a video call
- Tap the screen to see your self view.
- On your self-view, tap Blur your background to turn blur on and off.
Blurring your background may increase your battery usage. You may want to turn it off if your battery is low.
