Qualcomm kicked off its annual technology summit yesterday in a hypothetical speech by Qualcomm Incorporated President Cristiano Amon, highlighting the title with a statement Snapdragon 888 – the mobile platform first of the company.
If you are a little confused by this name change, do not be afraid. Qualcomm is just digging into the Snapdragon 875 assembly.
More details about the new chipset will follow as the above continues, but for now, we have some information about what the device will look like. It comes with a third-generation X60 5G modem. The modem will support Sub-6 and mmWave global connectivity, with 5G carrier assembly, global multi-chipset, and dynamic spectrum distribution.

In addition, Qualcomm is also updating Snapdragon Elite Gaming’s response to game improvements and will include support for 144Hz display. Qualcomm has indicated that the Snapdragon 888 will provide the “most important upgrade” for GPU performance. We also have access to a sixth-generation AI engine with an updated Hexagon model, which will give a lot of advantages in the case of AI.
In addition, Spectra ISP has also been overhauled. Qualcomm talked about how to make it possible to take 2.7Gbps photos and videos, or about 120 12MP photos. This is a 35% increase over the previous generation.

As expected, Snapdragon 888 has made progress towards its flagship phone early next year, and Qualcomm has presented a list of 14 manufacturers who deploy devices with this chip. The list includes Xiaomi, Vivo, ASUS, Black Shark, Lenovo, LG, Meizu, Motorola, OneOPlus, Realme, ZTE, Nubia, OPPO, and Sharp.
Yes, Samsung isn’t on the list, but I’m not sure if it’s just a rough list or whether Qualcomm has a thing against the Korean tech giants. If you look at the history here, you’ll see Snapdragon 888 powered devices launching in February.
